POLISH-MOLDOVIAN-GERMAN WORKCAMP The vacation and conference residence Wernsdorf was founded by members of the social club SSB from Berlin. Under the regime of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), the complex had been used as a summer residence for the children of police officers. It was renovated by the members of SSB on their own. Thus a very nice place has been created which can be used for recreational and educational purposes during the whole year. The 14 inhabitants, aged between 1 and 65 years, moved out of town in this small village in Brandenburg, to live and work together in the countryside. They operate the vacation and conference residence in a volunteer capacity and use ateliers, studios and meadows to pursue their various creative activities. Their aim is to create and preserve self-managed places to live and work. The place contains a large forest, a lake to swim is there as well.
Work: Work in the forest, collecting woods, sawing; renovating buildings; building a fountain
Study: Sustainable development and environment protection, creative workshops (acrobatics, artistic woodworking, etc.)
Accommodation: In the guest house, showers, kitchen and lounge at hand
Qualifications: Willingness to physical work, interest for environmental issues

Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg
POLISH-UKRAINIAN-GERMAN WORKCAMP The association “mob – Obdachlose machen mobil e.V.” (homeless people get active) has the aim to improve the conditions of socially disadvantaged and excluded people, in particular homeless people and people threatened to become homeless. Therefore, the association established several project for help and self-help on its territory in the district Prenzlauer Berg in Berlin, amongst others the café “Kaffee Bankrott”, the newspaper “Straßenfeger”, sold by homeless people, an emergency accommodation or the second hand magazine “Trödel Point”. Participants will renovate the emergency-accomondation for homeless people. Beside this, the participants will deal with the impact of poverty and homlessnes, discuss with concerned people and get to know different help-projects. Furthermore, they will make an own artikel for the newspaper “Straßenfeger”.
Work: Construction work, e.g. Painting and making floors with tiles (we will work at least 6 hours per day)
Study: Working with homeless people, human rights and poverty, projects for self-help for homeless people, design of one page in the newspaper “Der Straßenfeger”

Berlin
The „AG Kleinstlandwirtschaft und Gärten in Stadt und Land“ (Working group on small agriculture and gardens in city and landscape) deals with the social and ecological meaning of gardens and small farms worldwide. They aim to improve the situation of farmers and gardeners, subsistence-agriculture and women in agriculture. The volunteers will work on the establishment of an intercultural garden in the middle of Berlin in cooperation with the users of the garden. By doing that they will learn about sustainable and alternative economy, development of the city and sustainable agriculture in the city. Besides, they will deal with the integration of migrants through intercultural projects.
Work: Garden work, creative arrangement work, 6 hours per day

Berlin-Friedrichshain
Bodhicharya is an organization that derived from the Tibetan Karma Kagyu School. It has a centre for peace and understanding that works inter-religiously in Berlin. Buddhist and Tibetan teachings are practiced there. Also they support inter-religious and inter-cultural exchange and social projects. They offer introduction to Buddhism and meditation, yoga, tai chi and Tibetan methods of treatment as well. In the summer of 2003 the organization took over a site with different badly dilapidated buildings in Berlin. It is under preservation order and they started to renovate it slowly. They want to install a centre for religion, social projects and culture there. Most of the people working there are volunteers. At the moment the buildings are renovated and furnished. On the whole area drinking and smoking is prohibited!
Work: Construction work, partly exhausting
Study: Inter-religious exchange, discussions with representatives of different religions, workshop on inter-religious dialogue in cooperation with Inter-religious centre Jerusalem in Berlin, introduction to Buddhism and meditation
Accommodation: In one of the buildings, very, very simple (mattresses and they have only two showers!)
Qualifications: Interest in religion and construction work, ability to work hard; due to the challenging study part a good knowledge of English is very useful.

Wir sind ... eine Gruppe von jungen Leuten, die den Austausch zwischen Menschen aus aller Welt fördern will. Deshalb organisieren wir internationale Workcamps in Berlin und Umgebung. Wir ermöglichen den Teilnehmern, nicht nur interessante neue Bekanntschaften zu knüpfen und neue Erfahrungen zu sammeln, sondern auch Berlin aus einer anderen, nicht-touristischen Perspektive kennen zu lernen.
"Projekte" sind ... gemeinnützige Initiativen mit sozialen, politischen, kulturellen oder ökologischen Zielsetzungen. Unsere Projektpartner arbeiten mit Kindern und Jugendlichen, Migranten oder älteren Menschen, organisieren Kulturveranstaltungen oder setzen sich für Antirassismus, Umweltschutz oder alternative Lebensformen ein. Im Rahmen der Workcamps unterstützen die Teilnehmer jeweils für zwei, drei Wochen ehrenamtlich ein lokales Projekt durch ihr Engagement und Know-how.
Wir wollen... beitragen zu internationaler Verständigung, zu Abrüstung und sozialer Gerechtigkeit und zu gleichberechtigten Beziehungen zwischen Nord, Süd, Ost und West. Wir sind parteipolitisch unabhängig - uns verbinden die Offenheit für Neues, der Wille, etwas zu verändern und das Bedürfnis, Vorurteilen und Intoleranz mit guten Argumenten und Aktionen zu begegnen.
Um diesen Zielen näher zu kommen ... veranstalten wir Workcamps und internationale Treffen mit anderen SCI-Gruppen. Unterschiedlichste Menschen treffen so in ihren Ferien oder ihrer Freizeit aufeinander, arbeiten an einem gemeinsamen Projekt und tauschen sich aus. Diese Camps sind meist mit interessanten neuen Erfahrungen und Erkenntnissen verbunden und liefern Denkanstöße und Ideen..
Lokalgruppe ... nennen wir uns, da wir als SCI - Berlin e.V. zwar ein eigenständiger Berliner Verein sind, aber zugleich eine Lokalgruppe des deutschen Service Civil International. Unsere rechtliche Eigenständigkeit ermöglicht uns, selbst aktiv zu werden und Fördermittel einzuwerben. Wir können so insbesondere mittellose, weniger etablierte Projekte unterstützen.
